Description

This refers to the total number of children and young people in OOHC by length of time in current care period and number of distinct placements in the period as at 30 June.

This excludes placements where children and young people have returned to previous carers and children and young people that had a non-permanent placement for less than seven days.

Description

This table excludes placements where children and young people have returned to previous carers and children and young people that had a non-permanent placement for less than seven days.

District reflects where the child/young person's case plan is held at the end of the period.

Description

This refers to the total number of Aboriginal/non-Aboriginal children and young people in OOHC by length of time in current care period as at 30 June.

In 2017-18 changes were made to OOHC counting rules to better align those with national reporting and to also better reflect the legal status of clients in OOHC. The result as at 30 June 2018 for this measure is not directly comparable to the historic data previously published.

When adjusted to make them comparable, there was a decrease of 1.1% and 3.1% in the number of Aboriginal children and young people and non-Aboriginal children and young people in OOHC respectively, compared to 30 June 2017.

Compared to 30 June 2016, there was a decrease of 0.1% and 4.0 % in the number of Aboriginal children and young people and non-Aboriginal children and young people in OOHC as at 30 June 2018 respectively.

Description

This refers to the total number of children and young people in OOHC by age and Aboriginality as at 30 June.

In 2017-18 changes were made to OOHC counting rules to better align those with national reporting and to also better reflect the legal status of clients in OOHC. The result as at 30 June 2018 for this measure is not directly comparable to the historic data previously published.

When adjusted to make them comparable, compared to 30 June 2017, there was a decrease of 1.1 per cent for Aboriginal and 3.1 per cent for non-Aboriginal in the total number of children and young people in OOHC as at 30 June 2018.

Compared to 30 June 2016, there was a decrease of 0.1 per cent for Aboriginal and 4.0 per cent for non-Aboriginal in the total number of children and young people in OOHC as at 30 June 2018.

Measure – All adoptions by type of adoption

Description

This refers to the total number of all adoptions by type of adoption in the reporting period. It includes all children for whom final adoption orders were made during the financial year. This includes orders that were made in Australia and, in the case of some intercountry adoptions, where the full adoption order was made in the country of origin.

These figures are sourced from Adoption Services records that are provided to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) for the annual Adoptions Australia report.

‘Bilateral adoptions’ were referred to as ‘non-Hague’ adoptions prior to 2017-18.

‘Other’ includes children adopted by commissioning parent(s) (surrogate parents), whether the commissioning parent is a relative or not.
