Description

This refers to the total number of children and young people in statutory OOHC by Aboriginality and placement provider as at 30 June.

In 2017-18 changes were made to OOHC counting rules to better align those with national reporting and to also better reflect the legal status of clients in OOHC. As at 30 June 2018, the result for this measure is not directly comparable to historic data previously published.

Data for non-Aboriginal children and young people also includes children and young people with status not stated.

Disability data is not remediated for all children in OOHC.

'Disability' relates to records where a disability type is recorded in KiDS.

'No Disability' relates to records where a disability type of 'no disability' is recorded in KiDS and it also includes "unknown" records where a current disability type is not recorded.

Measure – Rate of per 1,000 population of children in statutory OOHC by Aboriginality

Description

The rate of children and young people in statutory OOHC is calculated as the total number of Aboriginal/non-Aboriginal children and young people in statutory OOHC, divided by the Aboriginal/non-Aboriginal population aged 0-17 years published in Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), multiplied by 1,000.

Population used in rate calculation are based on Estimates and Projections, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, 2001 to 2026 and ABS Estimated Resident Population, NSW, LGA by age and sex, at 30 June.

Data for non-Aboriginal children and young people also includes children and young people with status not stated.

Description

The rate of children and young people in statutory OOHC was calculated as the total number of children and young people in statutory OOHC in each DCJ district, divided by the population aged 0-17 years for each DCJ district, multiplied by 1,000.

Population used in rate calculation are based on ABS Estimated Resident Population, NSW, LGA by age and sex, at 30 June.
