Description

The numbers refer to the total number of unique children and young people involved in ROSH reports by district during the year.

The percentage figures refer to the total number of unique children and young people involved in ROSH reports by district during the year as a percentage of total number of unique children and young people involved in ROSH reports during the year.

District refers to where the child/young person's case plan is held at the end of the period.

Statewide Services also includes 'not entered', in most cases where reports don't require a field response after an assessment/screening is undertaken at the Child Protection Helpline.

Measure – Rate of children and young people in ROSH per 1,000 population by age

Description

The rate of children and young people involved in ROSH reports is calculated as the total number of children and young people involved in ROSH reports, divided by the population aged 0-17 years published in Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), multiplied by 1,000.

Population used in rate calculation are based on Estimates and Projections, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, 2001 to 2026 and ABS Estimated Resident Population, NSW as at 30 June 2016.

For children/young people reported more than once, the age at the first report for the year is used.

Description

The rate of Aboriginal/non-Aboriginal children and young people involved in ROSH reports is calculated as the total number of Aboriginal/non-Aboriginal children and young people involved in ROSH reports, divided by the Aboriginal/non-Aboriginal population aged 0-17 years published in Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), multiplied by 1,000.

Populations used in rate calculations are based on Australian Bureau of Statistics, Estimated Resident population, NSW, at 30 June 2016.

Measure – Children and young people involved in ROSH reports by selected mandatory reporters

Description

This refers to number of unique children and young people involved in ROSH reports by selected mandatory reporters in the reporting period.

A mandatory reporter is a person who as part of their professional or paid work or as the supervisor/manager of a person who as part of their professional or paid work, delivers health care, welfare, education, children's services, residential services or law enforcement to children. Mandatory reporters are required to make a report to FACS if they suspect that a child is at risk of harm.

As a child may be reported by one or more reporter type throughout the year, the categories presented are not mutually exclusive.

Education includes NSW TAFE up to 2014-15.

Measure – Children and young people involved in ROSH reports by selected reported issue in any of their reports

Description

This refers to number of children and young people involved in ROSH reports by reported issue recorded in any of their reports in the reporting period.

As a child/young person can have up to three reported issues per report and may be reported multiple times during the year, the categories presented are not mutually exclusive and do not add to the total number of children/young people.

In 2017-18, reported issue relates to Helpline assessed issues.
