How we got here

In 2016, we released the Foundations for Change Discussion Paper to seek views on the changes we needed to make to the way we respond to homelessness.

We received 120 submissions and brought together 430 participants from government and non-government agencies to help us map and understand regional differences in the experience of demand for homelessness support and service provision.

We also asked independent specialists to speak confidentially and openly with people who were homeless. Through these interviews and small group consultations, we heard the stories of people who had left prison, who had left domestic and family violence, who were sleeping rough, Aboriginal people, older people and young people from across NSW.

The voices, views and experiences we heard through the consultation process informed the development of the current NSW Homelessness Strategy.
