DCJ Housing Schools Based Traineeships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Make a start on your career

Do you want to make a start on your career and get a Certificate II in Business while you are still at school?

If you are a Year 10 Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student you can apply for a DCJ Housing Schools Based Traineeship. The traineeship offers you practical work experience to develop your skills and knowledge, and a nationally recognised business qualification.

Your on-the-job work will also count towards your Higher School Certificate (HSC).

What to expect

DCJ Housing is seeking enthusiastic trainees to help us provide housing solutions for people in need across NSW.

The traineeship requires you to work 800 hours at DCJ Housing during Year 11 and 12 and part of each school holiday. You will be supported by a mentor throughout your traineeship to give you the best chance for success.

You will also be given the opportunity to develop new skills, including communication and customer service skills.

Your successful completion of the traineeship will help you to achieve:

  • a Certificate II in Business, which is a nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework
  • a Certificate of Proficiency for the traineeship
  • your HSC

DCJ Housing has a strong partnership with the recruitment company Aboriginal Employment Strategy Ltd (AES) to deliver the traineeship program.

DCJ Housing is under no obligation to continue employment on your completion of the traineeship, although trainees will be encouraged and supported in applying for advertised positions.
