Description

This refers to the total number of households newly entering into social housing during the quarter.  It counts the number of new applicants who were housed from the NSW Housing Register during the quarter.

Measure – New allocations of housing to households in greatest need

Description

This refers to the total number of new housing allocations to households in greatest need during the quarter as a percentage of the total number of new housing allocations to households during the quarter.

In this Dashboard new households in greatest need can be analysed by the following three ways:

  1. Aboriginality;
  2. Head of households’ age group, and;
  3. Family type;

By Aboriginality, new allocations of housing are reported under two categories, Aboriginal households, which refer to households with at least one of the household members being identified as Aboriginal, and non-Aboriginal households/Households with unknown Aboriginal status, which refer to no household members being identified as Aboriginal or the Aboriginal status for the households is unknown.

By age group of head of households, new allocations of housing are reported under five categories, including the head of households aged under 18 years, the head of households aged 18-24 years, the head of households aged 25-54 years, the head of

households aged 55 years and over, and the age information for households being unknown.

By family type, new allocations of housing are reported under five categories, including single-person households, couple households, households of single parent with dependent children, households of other family with dependent children, and other households.

Measure – Households assisted with temporary accommodation

Description

This refers to the total number of households assisted with temporary accommodation during the quarter.

Temporary accommodation is short-term assistance provided to households who have just become homeless or are at risk of homelessness and have also demonstrated they have nowhere safe to stay that night.

Measure – Length of public and Aboriginal housing residential tenancies

Description

This refers to the total number of households in public and Aboriginal Housing with the tenure length of Under 1 year, 1-2 years, 2-5 years, 5-10 years or More than 10 years as at quarter end as a percentage of the total number of households in public and Aboriginal housing as at quarter end.

The tenure length is the continuous period a tenant has been in public or Aboriginal housing as at quarter end.

Measure - Type of residential tenancy agreements offered

Description

This refers to the total number of public and Aboriginal housing tenancy agreements offered by DCJ for a fixed (Up to 2 years, 5 years and 10 years) or Continuous period as at quarter end as a proportion of the total number of the public and Aboriginal housing tenancy agreements offered as at quarter end.

DCJ offers the type of lease that reflects a client’s needs and circumstances, making a decision based on the information provided by the client as well as other relevant information.

Description

This refers to the number of newly housed households in public or Aboriginal housing allocated to Studio/One bedroom, Two bedrooms, Three bedrooms, or Four and more bedrooms properties during the quarter as a percentage of the total number of newly housed households in housing during the quarter.

Supporting pathways to independence

Measure – Households assisted with housing products other than social housing

Description

This refers to the total number of households assisted with the following financial and non-financial housing products to secure or maintain their tenancy in the private market during the quarter.

  • Financial assistance – This includes Bond loan, Advance rent, Rent arrears, Private rental subsidy and Rent Choices (such as Rent Choice – Start safely, Rent Choice – Youth subsidy, Rent Choice – Veterans and Rent Choice Assist).
  • Due to the introduction of Rent Choices in 2017-18, several financial housing products have been reported under different names. For instance, Rent Choice – Start Safely was reported as Start Safely prior to 2017-18, Rent Choice – Youth Subsidy was reported as Youth Subsidy and Private rental subsidy was reported as Private rental subsidy (excludes Start Safely clients assisted).

  • Non-financial assistance – This includes Private Rental Brokerage Service, Tenancy Guarantee/Bond Extra and Tenancy Facilitation. Note: Tenancy Guarantee is no longer offered to new clients after the introduction of the new Bond Extra product on 19 June 2020.

A household may access more than one type of housing assistance during the quarter.

Description

This refers to the total number of households exiting social housing during the quarter as a result of securing a rental property in the private market or buying their own property.
