What is DCJ doing to improve the outcomes for unaccompanied children under 16 who are homeless or at risk?

The More than Shelter progress report that was tabled in NSW Parliament by the NSW Ombudsman on 19 October 2020 includes seven new recommendations to help address legal and policy gaps in supporting homeless children and young people aged 12-15. The Departments response to the new recommendations was published as an annexure to the More than Shelter progress report.

An Implementation plan outlining activities to implement the new recommendations was published. A final progress report about implementation of these recommendations was provided to the NSW Ombudsman in March 2022.

The Plain English Summary – Consent and Parental Responsibility PDF, 152.97 KB information sheet provides information relating to consent and parental responsibility with regard to young people aged 12-15 who are being supported by SHS.
