Riverwood redevelopment

Riverwood Renewal: July 2016

The remainder of the social housing estate at Riverwood is set to be renewed with a vision to create more social and affordable housing mixed with private housing.

The redevelopment is part of the NSW Government’s Future Directions for Social Housing in NSW, a 10 year plan for delivering more housing, better opportunities for people to enter the private housing market and better services for vulnerable households.

Community feedback will be sought at all stages of planning and development.

The planning process will involve Riverwood being submitted as a State Significant Precinct (SSP), with planning studies and community consultations to commence in August 2016.

The Government will stage the development as much as possible so that residents can move from their current home directly into their new home.

  • It will be at least two years before any resident will have to temporarily move from their current home to allow new building work to begin.
  • Dedicated staff from Family and Community Services (FACS) will be available to advise Riverwood tenants on the process and ensure that new homes are suited to tenants’ needs.
  • Tenants will be given plenty of notice when they are required to relocate and moving costs will be covered by FACS.
  • We will be consulting residents, the broader community and other stakeholders to ensure we understand what is required to further improve Riverwood.
  • We will know more about the timing of redevelopment as the SSP Study and Planning Framework progresses and we will continue to provide updates along the way.
