The Brief Assessment Checklist (BAC) was developed by Michael Tarren Sweeney, Associate Professor, University of Canterbury, New Zealand.
It is a 20-item caregiver report designed to screen for and monitor mental health difficulties experienced by children and young people in foster, kinship and adoptive care.
The BAC Child (4-11 years) and BAC Adolescent (12-18 years) are derived from the Assessment Checklist for Children (ACC, comprising 120 items) and Assessment Checklist for Adolescents (ACA, comprising 105 items), respectively.
The BAC is designed to be used by health and social care professionals who are not qualified child and adolescent mental health clinicians.
The BAC is currently available on paper only.
