The NSW Government is committed to building a memorial at the Parramatta Girls’ Home site to acknowledge the women who experienced abuse as children at the home.
The memorial will be a place of remembrance and reflection for their families, as well as the wider community.
This website will provide updates on the progress of the memorial.
Five artists have been shortlisted by an independent advisory panel to develop memorial designs. One of these will be chosen as the final design. An announcement on the final design is expected in early 2017.
Feedback from former residents has shaped memorial designs and helped in the selection of the final memorial design.
An initial series of consultations was held with former residents to discuss ideas about a suitable memorial. You can read the Consultation Summary Report here.
In June 2016, former residents were able to comment on the five shortlisted artists initial design ideas for a memorial via a workshop and a questionnaire. A summary of what was heard during the consultations is available here .
Recently former residents also completed a survey telling us which design they prefer.
