The Preventing and responding to abuse of older people (Elder Abuse) NSW Interagency Policy, June 2018 is an important step in continuing to strengthen the NSW Government's response to the abuse of older people.

NSW Government wants to prevent abuse, or at least identify it earlier and then respond in a coordinated way to support, intervene and protect older people.

The policy has 3 key aims:

  1. Describe the key parameters of abuse of older people. This includes the types of abuse and risk factors.
  2. Outline the broad framework for responding to the elder abuse in NSW
  3. Describe the requirements for agencies

The policy also sets out considerations for information sharing and decision-making.
