Presentation: The Structured Decision Making® (SDM) model is a suite of assessment tools that promote safety and well-being for those most at risk—from children to vulnerable adults. SDM® helps guide key decision points in child protection and is informed by information known through research to be relevant to that decision.

The NSW Structured Decision Making (SDM) Framework diagram comprise of the following SDM® tools and related prompts, listed by decision point sequential order:

(1) Mandatory Reporter Guide (MRG) – Should this incident be reported?

(2) Screening and Response Priority Tools (SCRPT) – Should this referral be investigated?

(3) Safety Assessment (SA) – Should this child stay at home?

(4) Risk Assessment (RA) – Should a case remain open?

(5) Restoration Assessment – Can the child return home?

(6) Risk Reassessment and closing safely – Should this case be closed?
