Overview

The PSP Permanency Q&A Webinars are a free service to help increase practitioners’ knowledge and skills to support children and young people achieve permanency.

These interactive webinars will provide an opportunity for practitioners to ask questions about casework, policies and legislation. It is also a platform for showcasing innovative practices in achieving permanency for children and navigating challenges that may arise in permanency casework.

Once you’ve registered, you will have an opportunity to submit any questions in advance as well as during the webinar.

How the Q&A Webinars will run

The webinars will be run through Microsoft Teams. You can access Microsoft Teams through your web browser or download the application here.

A Microsoft Teams link will be sent in a confirmation email once you have registered through the links provided in the table below.

Current case law and how it drives the standard of evidence for Court

Making decisions about permanency for children requires careful consideration of the permanent placement principles. Come and learn about the importance of parallel planning, when it’s appropriate and how it can lead to better outcomes for children and families.

Restoration for young people in long term care - when is the right time?

Learn about the importance of good practice around restoring young people safely home. We will discuss when and how to seek approval from the Children’s Court to change the young person’s approved permanency plan. Learn about when to change the goal, how to increase family time and how to assess whether restoration can be achieved.

Improving Leaving Care Planning for young people in out-of-home care

Leaving Care Planning is a critical process for young people from 15 years of age. Learn about the importance of a leaving care plan and how your casework supports good outcomes for young people.

How to involve family and carers in permanency decision-making

Family and carers, along with the child, play a critical role in decision making processes. Making decisions about a child’s permanency should be led by family. Meet with subject matter experts and hear about how to engage family and carers in this process.

 

January 2023

Roles and responsibilities when children enter out-of-home care

Navigating casework and court responsibilities, and meeting critical court timeframes can be challenging between DCJ and NGO teams. Come and discuss with subject matter experts how to ensure children’s permanency needs are met during this process and who is responsible for what tasks.
