Villawood renewal sees social housing boost

13 Dec 2017

The NSW Government is set to transform and revitalise a neglected site in Western Sydney, increasing the supply of social and affordable through the Communities Plus building program.

Minister for Social Housing Pru Goward today announced that expressions of interest were open for a mixed development of the Kamira Court site in Villawood.

Ms Goward said the Government would target approximately 400 new private, social and affordable dwellings at Kamira Court, which is close to rail, schools and shopping centres.

The Labor Government demolished the original site in 2006.

“This is a terrific opportunity for the Government to work in partnership with not-for-profit and private sectors to deliver a dynamic new mixed community that is close to infrastructure.

“Through mixed communities like Villawood, we will help residents break the cycle of disadvantage by providing tailored and co-ordinated support so they can move towards housing independence.”

The Communities Plus program will deliver up to 23,500 new and replacement social and affordable housing dwellings, and up to 40,000 private homes over the next 10 years. Other sites in Western Sydney under Communities Plus include Telopea, Liverpool, South Granville and St Marys.
