Intensive Therapeutic Care contracting moves to next procurement phase

20 Mar 2017

The transformation of residential care is underway, with 26 service providers moving to the next stage of the open tender to provide Intensive Therapeutic Care.

Minister for Family and Community Services Pru Goward said this is part of a major change to the way service providers will deliver care for our most vulnerable children and young people.

“The NSW Government has committed to improving the lives of kids in care, but the sad fact is that we have a system that currently allows children to languish, without safety and without permanency,” Ms Goward said.

“That’s why we’re replacing the current inadequate residential care model with an Intensive Therapeutic Care system that will focus on the child’s recovery from trauma and abuse and support them to transition to a safe, permanent and loving environment.”

Ms Goward said that today’s announcement formed part of the broader systemic reform of the child protection system.

“We want a system that’s based around the needs of children, we want the child to be at the centre of everything we do,” Ms Goward said.

Applicants will now move to the next phase of procurement.

More announcements on the transformation of the child protection system will be made in coming weeks.
