For sale: Sirius building goes to market

7 Dec 2017

The Sirius building is officially on the market, with the proceeds of the sale to provide more social housing for the State’s most vulnerable people.

Minister for Social Housing Pru Goward said the Sirius sale will result in the construction of hundreds of new social housing properties.

More than700 purpose-built quality dwellings have already been built from the proceeds of the Millers Point sales to date, with a further 372 properties currently under construction.

“For each Millers Point property sold we are building close to five new homes,” Ms Goward said.

“The legacy of this sale will be the hundreds of brand new homes built for our most vulnerable. Improving their lives was always at the heart of this decision. I have met some of the tenants who have already moved into new homes across NSW and heard wonderful feedback.”

Minister for Finance, Services and Property Victor Dominello said: "It is the Government's clear preference to return the skyline to Sydney however we will not make a decision on that until we first receive a response from the market."

Minister for Planning Anthony Roberts said: “The maximum height of any building would be restricted to the height of the Sydney Harbour Bridge deck.

“This height restriction will ensure any building approved on the site fits in with the character of the surrounding buildings,” Mr Roberts said.

“Any building proposed for the site would need to meet design excellence standards for its architectural, urban and landscape plans so that we can ensure we are creating a great place that fits well with the surrounding area.”

The proposed amendment to the state policy for State Significant Precincts is on exhibition for public feedback until 16 February, 2018.
